Today, year 6 applied printing ink to the styrofoam block which they had made previously. They then made a few different prints in their books using 2 different colours. Some very effective prints were produced.

Transferring a design onto a styrofoam block
Year 6 learnt how to transfer a design onto a styrofoam block. They chose their designs, then rubbed their pencils over the back of the design. They then placed their designs onto their blocks and copied over the parts of their picture they wished to include. After that they lifted off their picture, and using a pencil very carefully outlined their design onto the styrofoam so ensure that their design was on the block. Next week, they will do some printing using their blocks.
The Finding of Moses meets Banksy art workshop
Year 6 had an interesting day exploring some of Banksy’s artwork. The focused on examples of how he has added modern day images to classical works of art. They then took a line drawing of The Finding of Moses, a classical piece of art to create their own Banksy -like subversive piece of art. They added subversive elements to the classical line drawing using transfer paper and stencils taken from some of Banksy’s work and cutouts from magazines. Still a work in progress, it’ll be interesting to see what stories these new pieces of art tell.
Mono printing
Year 6 learnt how to do simple mono printing. They inked up a plastic sheet using ink and a roller. Trying not to ink themselves in the process. Then placed an Angie Lewin design on top of the wet ink. The traced over the design to create their own print. A very messy afternoon. They were amazed at how well the prints came out. I was impressed with the care taken with their tracing.
Angie Lewin inking
The children completed their inking of their Angie Lewin design by outlining their inked work with black pen. They hen took another part of an image and inked that.

Inking an Angie Lewin Sketch
The children completed their sketches from the previous week, then chose different colours to use to ink their sketch.I’m really please with the care they took to carefully ink their work. This is the first time, they have used ink. Some fantastic inking.

Angie Lewin sketching
This week the children, chose an Angie Lewin design, which they then carefully sketched. There are some fabulous examples of sketching below.

Medium term plan: Angie Lewin

The year 6 topic of looking at Everyday Fashions continues with looking at the work of a contemporary artist, Angie Lewin. The children will find out some facts about her, express their opinions of her work and compare her work to that of William Morris. They will choose one of her pieces of art to sketch and then ink, which is something they’ve not done yet. They will have a go at creating monoprints of her work and print on paper and then fabric which they will then embellish. Finally, they will reflect on their work.
Creative Voice Project
Year 6 were very fortunate to be involved in a project run by the Arts Council, entitled Creative Voice. They were asked to think of an imaginary world and to create their world in response to the way everything in their world had been turned upside down due to the pandemic. They were asked to think about a world they would like to live in. They then explored a variety of imaginary worlds and came up with a design which they then made. The images of their work were posted on by Artswork on their Instagram page. They produced some fabulous work. Well done Year 6.

Lockdown Art
The children completed the Klimt topic; they sketched a symbolic mythical creature. The next topic is Famous Fashions, where year 6 found out about William Morris and researched other famous designers who have made products for the home. They have started to look at a more contemporary designer Angie Lewin.
